Fashion photographer Stephen Meisel—known for his controversial but brilliant work for Vogue and Calvin Klein—has created an artful and arresting War on Terror-themed fashion spread for the September 2006 issue of Vogue Italia. Given the timing, the pics are likely to generate a lot of buzz. But the photography—showing models in various stages of undress facing riot squads and airport security lines—is truly remarkable. Beautiful. Totally beautiful. Shows what having a good budget—and a name like Stephen Meisel—can bring a magazine. I would have hated to see the bill on this editorial.
